Handed Down from one generation to another a heirloom is a special object that has belonged to a family for a long time.

When those objects are lost or stolen the observance of traditions must suffice. Cherished rites and activities act as a bonding ritual to connect family members and generations past.

“Heirloom” tells the story of a mother and daughter learning to sew. It is a playful depiction of a garment making process, where old and new objects are brought to life in stop motion.

A gentle palette of desaturated pastels is contrasted with bright pops of colour. Evoking a warm feeling of nostalgia akin to old comic books and highlighting the preciousness of those memories of teaching and learning.

Heirloom was designed and produced as my final year project for the BA Animation and Motion Design, and as such it was a very large and multilayered project that required extensive planning and preparation.
